Bruce Springsteen: We Shall Overcome - The Seeger Sessions

I have to say I was a little scared of this release. Man, was I mistaken. This thing is fantastic; not fantastic in a Stephen Colbert goes batshit right in the face of the President and the press fantastic, but fantasic nonetheless. Springsteen really does an amazing job of channeling the spirit of Seeger and delivers the songs with the excitement and enthusiam they deserve. These songs, the way Springsteen chooses to deliver them will save your soul. The performances are that good!

If all you know from Springsteen is the musical bombast of the E Street Band or the dark folksey acoustic style of Nebraska or The Ghost of Tom Joad, then you're in for a real treat. This album is folksey, yes, but not a solo acoustic folk. Fiddles, banjo, New Orleans horns, accordian and even washboard weave the colorful musical tapestry where these songs sit. The musicians are clearly having a ball, and that excitement envelopes Springsteen's delivery. This guy sounds like he's having more fun than he's had in years, which is something he's needed desperately.
